About GlobeDock Academy

GlobeDock Academy is an e-learning platform based in Ethiopia, dedicated to delivering high-quality, inclusive, and accessible education. To ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and effective knowledge transfer across diverse communities, GlobeDock Academy seeks qualified Language Translators & Speakers to support the translation and localization of educational and training content on a project basis. 


Key Responsibilities 

  1. Translate educational, training, and informational content accurately between Amharic and one or more target languages: Afar Af, Somali, Tigrigna, and Afan Oromo. 
  2. Ensure translations maintain the original meaning, intent, and quality of the source material. 
  3. Adapt and localize content to be culturally appropriate and contextually relevant for target audiences. 
  4. Provide oral interpretation and language support during training, workshops, meetings, and virtual learning sessions as required. 
  5. Review, proofread, and edit translated materials to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy. 
  6. Collaborate with instructional designers, trainers, and program teams to improve learning materials. 
  7. Handle all translated content with professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical responsibility. 


Qualifications & General Criteria 

  1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s (BA) or Master’s (MA/MSC) degree in Journalism and Media, Political Science, Law, Human Rights, Civic Education, Educational Technology, or a closely related discipline. 
  2. Language Fluency: Native or professional fluency in at least one of the following: Afar Af, Somali, Tigrigna, or Afan Oromo. Strong proficiency in Amharic and/or English is required for source material comprehension. 
  3. Contextual Knowledge: Must demonstrate a strong understanding of the Ethiopian civic and social context
  4. Professional Experience: Proven experience in translation, interpretation, or content localization, preferably in education, training, legal, or development contexts. 
  5. Proven Track Record: Ability to provide evidence of successful completion of similar projects or relevant work samples. 


Skills & Competencies 

  1. Precision: Excellent written and verbal translation skills with high attention to accuracy and clarity. 
  2. Complex Localization: Ability to translate complex educational, legal, or civic concepts into clear, context-appropriate language. 
  3. Cultural Awareness: Deep understanding of regional and linguistic nuances related to the target language(s). 
  4. Efficiency: Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet strict project deadlines. 
  5. Digital Literacy: Experience working with digital learning content or e-learning platforms is an added advantage. 
  6. Integrity: High ethical standards, including confidentiality and data protection.
